PWHPAEvents, News, Press Release

HUDSON, N.H. (September 12, 2019) – North America’s top female hockey players will be competing in the second stop of the PWHPA Dream Gap Tour which will take place at Hudson’s Cyclones Arena October 5 – 6, 2019. The Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association (PWHPA) is honored to have Dunkin’ as the title sponsor of the Dunkin’ Women’s Hockey Showcase. Dunkin’ has continued to show their support for women’s sports and as part of this partnership, they will present the Dunkin’ Player of the Game after every match and the Dunkin’ MVP award at Sunday’s championship game. Dunkin’ has also signed on to partner with the PWHPA across other future U.S. stops of the Dream Gap Tour and will expand their presence outside of the weekend games by sponsoring youth skills clinics and community events on the Friday of each tournament weekend.

The Dunkin’ Women’s Hockey Showcase will be a four-team exhibition tournament over two days, with four games showcasing the world’s best players. The line-up includes 20 Olympians representing two countries including Kendall Coyne Schofield, Hilary Knight, Lee Stecklein, Marie-Philip Poulin, Kali Flanagan, Mélodie Daoust, Monique Lamoureux-Morando and Jocelyn Lamoureux-Davidson, among others. Tickets can be purchased at pwhpa.com/events/dunkin-showcase/.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with such an empowering organization as the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association,” said Tom Manchester, Senior Vice President of Integrated Marketing, Dunkin’ U.S. “Dunkin’ is a proud supporter of women’s hockey and we couldn’t be more excited to extend our commitment to the sport by sponsoring this tour.”

In addition to the weekend’s games, the PWHPA along with the support of Dunkin’ will host a youth hockey skills clinic on Friday, October 4 at Hudson’s Cyclones Arena. As part of the clinic young players ages 6 – 16 are invited to skate with the pros and learn essential skills from this decorated group of female hockey players. The clinic will be hosted from 5:15PM – 6:30PM and will follow with an autograph session with select players. To find out more and sign up to attend visit pwhpa.com/events/dunkin-showcase/.

In addition to the premier sponsorship with Dunkin’, the PWPHA also has secured major partnerships with Bauer Hockey, the official equipment supplier of the PWHPA. The PWHPA would also like to thank the Women’s Hockey Tribune for their support in the New Hampshire showcase.

“I am very excited to participate in and be a part of the Dream Gap Tour that is set to come to Hudson in a few weeks,” said Kali Flanagan, former Boston College defensemen and 2018 Olympic Gold Medalist for Team USA from Hudson, NH. “It’s so important for young girls to have role models to look up to and this stop is the perfect opportunity for girls from my hometown to see what they can be when they grow up. We can’t wait for everyone to see what the PWHPA is made of!”

Thanks to other sponsors in additional US markets, the tour will also be visiting Chicago, Illinois on October 18 – 20, 2019. For additional information, please visit www.PWHPA.com.

The PWHPA Dream Gap Tour was created to draw attention to the fact that there currently is not a league that consistently showcases the best product of women’s hockey in the world, pays its players a living wage and has the infrastructure to set the game up to succeed. Such a league would represent an important step in closing the dream gap between young boys and girls. A young boy can lace up his skates and imagine himself circling the ice in his favorite professional team’s jersey as the crowd chants his name. He dreams it, because he’s seen it countless times. There is no realistic equivalent for aspiring female hockey players to imagine their futures.
